ARE YOU SEEING CLEARLY?

04/11/2025

Luke 11:34 "The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness."

In this verse, our Lord compares the eye to a lamp that illuminates the entire body. Our eyes are more than tools for physical sight—they are gateways to our hearts and minds, portals that influence our souls. When Jesus refers to "good" eyes, He isn't merely talking about clear vision—He's talking about spiritual clarity and moral perception. It's not just what we see, but how we see that determines whether we walk in light or stumble in darkness.

Bad eyes lead to skewed perception. But when our eyes are good—focused on what is righteous, pure, and true—our entire being is filled with light. In a well-lit room, we can navigate easily, avoid obstacles, and find what we're searching for. But in darkness, we stumble, fall, and reach out desperately for something solid to hold onto.

Our eyes can either behold that which uplifts and nourishes, or that which corrupts and harms. The things we choose to gaze upon shape who we are at our core. When we fix our eyes on what is good, light flows from within us. But when we entertain evil, darkness doesn't just come in—it begins to radiate from within, impacting not only us but also those around us.

The Bible warns that Satan masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). That's the enemy's great deception: to convince us that we've found light, when in fact, we're being drawn deeper into darkness. He seeks to blind us to the truth and pollute our minds, often through what we see—whether it's the constant flood of pornography, the enticement of materialism, or other temptations paraded before us. He offers false promises of happiness and fulfillment, even as he strips them away.

When our eyes fixate on sin, even the blazing glory of God—like the sun at noon—can be hidden from us. The light may be shining all around, but if our eyes are turned toward darkness, we remain blind. To be filled with true light, we must repent, turn from sin, and ask God to forgive us, cleanse us, and open our eyes spiritually. Once opened, we must be vigilant. Guarding our hearts starts with guarding our eyes. What we behold ultimately shapes who we become.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of true light. Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, that I may see clearly and walk in Your truth. Forgive me for the times I have allowed darkness to enter through what I've watched, read, or entertained. Cleanse my heart and redirect my focus. Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith, and to be intentional about what I let into my spirit. Let Your light so fill me that it radiates to those around me. Teach me to guard my eyes, that I may walk in purity, in clarity, and in Your presence always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
